Can Everybody Please Stop Asking Vinnie Paul About A PANTERA Reunion?
Posted by RobInjection on July 23, 2012
Look, we get it. You need to get your story out there, and any mention of Pantera is a sure way to get things posted. Heck, I'm writing about it right now, and I've written about it before. But at this point, I just feel like we're repeating ourselves.
A few months ago, Zakk Wylde said he would be honored to step in for Dimebag Darrell for a Pantera reunion, but ultimately has said that he can't see it happening.
Ever since then, virtually every interview with Vinnie Paul, who is promoting his current band, Hellyeah, and their new album, Band of Brothers has had a question about reforming Pantera with Wylde or some different variant of the question and every time Paul has flat-out refused to go along.
The most recent case was a Michigan radio interview where Paul stated “I think the bottom line is Zakk’s a great friend of mine. Obviously, he was a really great friend of Dime’s. But the truth of the matter is Dime was Pantera.”
There, done…stop it.
Pantera will never be back.
If you really want to hear Pantera tracks bad, grab the live DVD or go see the Metal Masters in September. Phil will certainly bust out some tunes.

A few months ago, things were looking up, when Dimebag's self-professed "hag" Rita Haney mentioned that her and Phil have pretty much buried the hatchet. She also went onto mention that Vinnie Paul was none to happy about it. Well, if he was reconsidering his stance, Phil may have just done a disservice to healing those wounds. In a recent interview, Anselmo was asked about the situation, and in my opinion made things worse with his response:
"I'm fine with Rita. Me and Rita have always been cool. Sure, there was a fallout. But the way I look at it is, if it really is affecting someone to where they have to come out and say hateful things about me, untrue things about me, paint bullshit mystique about me, then, in their heart of hearts, they do care about me — that's the point. Vinnie Paul's closed-door policy when it comes to me, that's something he's gonna have to ride around on his shoulders the rest of his fucking life. I know this: My door is always open, and always has been open — always has been fucking open. And it is a little frustrating when you have a loose end and you're trying to tighten everything up. But you can't make everybody fucking happy all of the time — you can't. So, Vinnie Paul, he has no effect on my life at all — no effect at all. Good job, I'll say to Vince — you've hurt me. And you keep on hurting me. Great job! Where is it getting you? That's my question to him. My door has always been wide open, and I'll leave it at that, because I think everybody else knows the rest. It's fucking pretty A-B-C simple. He doesn't want to… There is a fear in him of me. That motherfucker is so fucking terrified of me. But somewhere within that terror, somewhere within this invented — and I do say 'invented' — scapegoat fucking slapping redneck hatred of his, there is a love bigger than any of that fucking shit, and that's why he's acting the way he's acting. So that's that."
Anselmo has such a positive way with words. Not really. I can't see Vinne Paul reading this and being anything but even more pissed/annoyed with Anselmo. Additionally, this means that any interview that Vinnie Paul is about to do for the soon to be finished Hellyeah album, will involve somebody asking him if he really is terrified of Anselmo. So, I'm sure he's really excited about that.
Things clearly got pretty bad, so Phil released a follow up video statement apologizing to anybody who got offended, and then blamed Blabbermouth for picking out that sentence and "sensationalizing what he said" to get hits. Dude, YOU SAID IT! Stop blaming the media for just pointing out the most interesting sentence of a paragraph long diatribe.
